The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion - Shivering Isles Completed
Jan 14th, 2008 by Steve
Er, ok. So this wasn’t on my in progress list, but I had a hankering to play Oblivion again and rather than replaying the main quest I decided to pick up the Shivering Isles expansion instead. Strangely it was almost £4 cheaper to buy it from Game on disk, in a proper retail case with a manual than downloading it directly from Microsoft Marketplace. Hmmm.
The Shivering Isles is a different, almost trippy looking place compared to the rest of the Oblivion world, with it’s brightly coloured plant life and giant mushrooms, and the new characters are great and often very funny, especially the completely loopy Lord Sheogorath. It was business as usual with the quests, go here, retrieve item, kill that etc, but when it’s done with such style it isn’t much of a problem. The only real downside for me is that while the blurb quotes thirty hours of gameplay, it has taken me only ten hours since I started on Friday to complete the main story with only a couple of side quests remaining. Still, it was only £16.99 and more Oblivion can only be a good thing.
WHAT
10 hours? It took me 25, and that’s without any side quests! Admittedly, I did kill both people, redoing about two hours of game, but still…
Tis true. The ten hours even includes the escape from the initial prison/sewer section as I’d deleted my previous Oblivion save. I also killed both Dukes, but I did use a little time-save cheat. I saved before I made my choice of which Duke to kill, did so and unlocked the achievement for it, reloaded the previous save, killed the other, and then carried on with the rest of the game from there.
